A powerful model for understanding the unique ways that we “see things” and relate to other people, situations and events. Acknowledging the ways in which our language (thoughts and conversations), our moods and emotions and our physical bodies inter-relate is essential for initiating and sustaining real change in our lives. The opportunity presented in personal coaching is to learn how each dimension can be used as the starting point for shifting ourselves, our relationships and our possibilities. We Are Each Unique Observers By the time we reach adulthood, many of us notice that other people do not always “see things” the way we do. In fact, if we look just a bit deeper, we can see that other people never always see everything exactly the ways we do! Seeing things differently has very little to do with our eyeballs or retinas. Instead, each of us may be seen as a unique observer, a walking, talking bundle of congruency among our language (internal and external conversations)… our moods/emotions… and our physical bodies: For each of us, our unique combination may be seen as our predominant “way of being”. Real (lasting) change involves all 3, each of which may be a starting point for learning, growth and transformation. Exercise (body) usually has us feel better (mood)… and in this new mood, we interpret situations (language) more positively and productively. The ways we stand, walk, breathe and move all impact our moods, listening, interpretations, conversations… and Results. Music can be used to either shift our mood or keep it the same. And when we do, it impacts us physically and in how we “see things” (interpret). Making new declarations and adopting new beliefs (language) about who we are and who we’re not, where we’re going and where we’re not… impact our mood and our “horizon of possibilities.” The great illusion is that everyone sees things the way we do. They do not. This does not mean they have ill intentions, however! You are a unique observer, but the observer you are is not fixed and permanent. Do you “see things” now just like you did when you were 16? No… instead, we are each in an ongoing process of learning, changing, becoming, and all 3 aspects are involved. It’s more appropriate to say we are “human becomings” rather than human beings. The invitation is to become a conscious designer of your way of being, using the creative power of language and its connection to your mood and physical body. Like this Tool Tip?
