Permanent domains or aspects of our lives that provide a practical and powerful framework for setting and achieving goals, as well as designing and creating balance and fulfillment. These domains are considered to be permanent, in that they exist for each of us – although we approach and prioritize them in our own unique ways. Because we can anticipate problems in any domain we ignore over time, they allow us to be proactive in making choices as well as avoiding preventable setbacks and difficulties. Many people benefit from life coaching because of the way these domains can be individually focused upon, as well as more effectively balanced in our lives. Thirteen Domains of Life – Part 1 As we become a more powerful observer of ourselves, we begin to see that different aspects or domains exist within our lives. As we seek to be more conscious and develop more capacity to create the Results we desire, these domains can serve as a guide to balance and well-being. Achieving adulthood, in this way of understanding, involves taking responsibility for our own standards, development, goals and actions within all domains. Relationships: Includes the nature of the relationships I tend to form, and includes how I tend to interact, coordinate action with and be with others around me. It involves how my relationships tend to start, grow/develop, change and end. Family: Includes more specifically my relationships with my family members (spouse, mother, father, siblings, children, in-laws, guardians) and the roles we play, the conversations we have and those we don’t, the way we interact and do what we do together. Work: Includes my habitual ways of doing whatever it is that I do; such as levels of focus, attention to detail, and perseverance… ways of communicating, managing commitments and relationship to authority. Career: Career (as opposed to Work) involves the particular offers I choose to make to the world, with how well these are thought out and purposefully designed. It has to do with the degree to which I see myself as designing my future and engaging in areas of genuine interest to me. Money and Finance: Involves how I think about and deal with money and situations involving money. My past and current spending and buying habits are here, as well as my beliefs and practices in the areas of planning, saving and investing for longer-term goals. Social: Related to Relationships, and includes how we participate in the social fabric of our communities. Includes our beliefs about and our way of participating in civic / volunteer activities, as well orientation toward and activities with friends. The invitation is to consider these domains (as well as Domains 7-13) as you create goals, design your life and enroll others to support you in being, doing and having what you want most to be, do and have.
